Talk To The Team
Billing
Our enrolments work like most subscriptions (a gym, Netflix, or a phone plan).

Fees stay the same whether you attend or not.

You can pause or cancel anytime with 7 days’ notice by emailing admin@teamcompton.com.au — all other contact methods will be ignored.
  • Members can pause or cancel their membership at any time by emailing: admin@teamcompton.com.au, with 7 days’ notice before the next billing date.
  • It is the member’s responsibility to ensure they are emailing the correct email address listed in this document. Refunds or credits will not be issued if pause or cancellation requests are sent to the wrong email address.
  • It is the member’s responsibility to stay up to date with any changes to our contact details by checking our website or official correspondence. While our email address is unlikely to change, members are still responsible for ensuring they are using the most current contact information.
  • Email is the only official and monitored channel for all questions, concerns, requests and membership changes, including pauses and cancellations. This allows us to help you as fast as possible and make sure nothing gets missed.
  • All other methods of communication, including but not limited to text message, social media message, phone call, voicemail, or telling a member of staff in person, will be ignored and will not be actioned.
  • This is because email:
    • Can be seen by the whole team to assist you as fast as possible
    • Works even if phone numbers change or staff are travelling so we don’t miss anything
    • Allows us to respond to you early in the morning or late at night, for faster responses
  • There is a 7-day notice period for all membership pauses, cancellations, and changes, made by email, but Team Compton Training Centre may complete requests earlier at their discretion.
  • Classes and training fees will not be refunded or credited retroactively, regardless of attendance.
  • Payments must be up to date in order to pause or cancel an account.
  • Accounts can be paused for a maximum of 4 weeks at a time, with a 6-week cooling-off period between pauses. You are always welcome to cancel if the pause terms do not suit you. Please note that after cancelling, you may need to pay a sign-up fee again, and you will lose access to any previous member rates that may be cheaper than your current rate.
  • The minimum pause period is 2 weeks. Short pauses of just a few days or a single week are not supported.
  • Attending a class during a pause or after cancelling will result in the automatic resumption of billing.
  • In rare cases where classes are cancelled due to weather, safety, competitions, or circumstances outside our control, classes are not refunded and memberships remain active as normal.
  • Fingernails and toenails must be kept trimmed, long hair tied back, and all training gear clean, hygienic and odour-free.
  • Jewellery, watches, piercings, and hard accessories must be removed before training.
  • Do not train if you are sick.
  • Members are responsible for bringing their own hygiene items, including nail clippers, bandages, and sports tape. We will not provide or lend these items.
  • All cuts, grazes, and open wounds must be fully covered before training.
  • Members must not train if they have any suspected skin condition or infection (including staph or ringworm), or if they are unwell. Training may only resume once cleared by a medical professional. We cannot issue refunds for training periods missed due to medical issues retroactively. However, you are still welcome to pause or cancel your account.
  • Shoes are not permitted on the mats.
  • Please wear shoes when entering the gym and when off the mats. If you arrive without shoes, you may not be permitted to train until your feet are cleaned.
  • Training without a shirt is not permitted unless specifically approved by a coach for competition preparation.
  • Members and parents are responsible for any damage caused by themselves or their children to the facility or equipment.
Continued participation at Team Compton Training Centre is conditional on students (children and adults) being able to train safely, respectfully, and appropriately within a group environment. If a child or adult's behavior consistently creates safety risks, significantly disrupts classes, or negatively impacts other students’ learning or wellbeing, we may determine that our program is not the right fit for them. In these cases, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate enrolment, with or without notice, at our discretion.
  • Being late occasionally is fine.
  • If you consistently arrive late, we may ask you to reassess whether the timetable suits you and whether we are the right gym for you.
  • Coaches will not repeat material that has already been taught for late-arriving students, as this takes time away from students who arrived on time.
  • Do not interrupt a coach while they are teaching.
  • Please keep off-the-mat conversations to a whisper while a class is running, and do not talk over coaches who are teaching.
  • Take phone calls outside the training area or out of earshot of any running class.
  • Adults are expected to use appropriate language and conversation topics when children are present in the facility, especially around junior class times.
  • Trial equipment is available for new students. Once enrolled, please begin organizing your own gear.
  • Gym trial equipment may be used for 3–4 weeks after joining. After this period, you are expected to have your own gear. More info on where and how to get your own gear can be found in our online support documents.
  • All lost items are placed in the lost property bin.
  • Please do not contact coaches or the gym to look for or set aside items.
  • The lost property bin at Team Compton Training Centre is emptied at the end of each calendar month.
It is extremely important to us that our training facility is a safe-to-fail, positive, pressure-free environment that is conducive to learning and growth.
Getting good takes a lot of losing, and we want students and kids to feel completely safe to lose and make mistakes.
  • Filming sparring or rolling is strictly prohibited without prior permission from both the coach and your training partner.
  • Sparring or rolling footage must not be posted online without permission from both the coach and training partner.
  • Do not request security camera footage for specific moves or sparring rounds. We will not provide it.
Protecting the safe-to-fail, positive learning environment is especially important in our junior program.

Coaching, yelling out, or giving technical advice from the sidelines is strictly prohibited. If you have tips or feedback, please share them during water breaks only. Instructors are trained by management to never allow parents to yell out advice or coach from the sidelines.
  • If instructors have to remind a parent multiple times, that parent will receive one official warning via email. Any further breaches will result in immediate and permanent membership termination, without exception. We have seen over-zealous sideline coaching make training uncomfortable for juniors and damage their confidence.
  • For more information, please see the “What Do Your Kids Really Hear When You Yell Advice?” page in our online support centre.
  • We appreciate your support and encouragement. To help students stay focused, please save all cheering, encouragement, and positive feedback for water breaks only.
  • We love seeing parents who want to train with their kids. Training together can be a lot of fun.
  • However, please do not teach your child techniques unless you have trained extensively. We have had situations where parents taught children moves they saw online that were incorrect, not allowed, or unsafe.
  • No students on the mat until 5 minutes before class time.
  • For student safety, children must be supervised at all times when they are not participating in their scheduled class.
  • Children who are not participating in the current class must remain quiet and seated within direct eyesight of their parent.
  • To allow instructors to give their full focus and attention to students on the mat, parents must ensure that any other children they bring to the training centre are calm, quiet, and seated.
  • Dropping children off without prior permission from a coach is strictly prohibited. This permission may be revoked at any time if we feel a child requires parental support.
  • For safety and comfort, children must wear appropriate training clothing that provides full coverage during movement. For example, students training in a school uniform with a skirt should wear bike shorts or leggings underneath.

When to Step In and When to Let Coaches Handle It

  • Except in the case of a potentially serious injury (which is extremely rare), please do not step onto the mats. Coaches will bring your child to you if they are hurt during class. As children progress and build resilience, coaches will, where appropriate for the child’s level, encourage them to work through minor bumps and bruises independently without parental intervention. This is deliberate and forms part of developing confidence, independence, and resilience.
  • We understand some parents may prefer to step in immediately for minor discomforts or injuries. However, our program may not align with those values. We have found that early parental intervention for minor issues can unintentionally undermine the development of confidence and independence. If you or your child have concerns regarding behaviour, safety, or interactions on the mat, these concerns must be raised directly and privately with a coach. Parents and carers must not approach other students or their parents directly, and concerns must be communicated respectfully and without speculation, gossip, or blame.
Critical Safety Information
Most serious injuries in grappling are completely avoidable.

While this is a combat sport and accidents can happen, the vast majority of injuries occur when basic safety rules are ignored. By following the guidelines below and training with awareness and control, we can reduce the risk of serious injury to near zero and keep the training environment safe for everyone.

Video Summary:

If you’re not sure, don’t do it

If you don’t fully understand a technique, stop and ask a coach first.

Be aware of your space at all times

If you move into another pair’s space, you must stop and reset.

Never prioritise finishing a move over safety

No submission or takedown is worth injuring a training partner.

Never sit or fall onto a partner’s knee

Any falling body weight into the knee is extremely dangerous and banned. Anytime your hips are going to hit the floor before your knees there is a high chance your about to injure someone.

No jumping guard

Jumping guard is banned due to severe injury risk.

Standing techniques carry the highest injury risk

Be extra cautious during takedowns; most serious injuries happen from standing.

Never pull a partner straight backwards from turtle

Always break turtle down to the side – never directly back.

Never forward roll from turtle with someone on your back

This can spike a partner’s head and cause serious neck or head injuries.

Do not resist techniques to the point of force

Excessive resistance forces partners to apply dangerous pressure and torque.

Intentions don’t matter – outcomes do

“I didn’t mean to” doesn’t prevent injuries. Your actions are your responsibility.

Video Summary:

Maintain basic hygiene at all times. Nails must be kept short, long hair tied back, training gear clean, and no shoes on the mats.

Cover all cuts, grazes, or open wounds before training to prevent infections.

Do not train if you are sick or have a suspected skin condition such as staph or ringworm. Medical clearance is required before returning.

Do not ask coaches for medical advice regarding skin conditions. Coaches are not doctors. See a medical professional.

Bring your own essentials to every session, including nail clippers, band-aids, and sports tape. Do not ask to borrow any.

Occasional lateness is acceptable. Consistent lateness (many weeks in a row) may result in being asked to reassess whether our gym is the right fit.

Do not interrupt coaches while they are teaching. Keep off-mat conversations quiet and take phone calls outside.

Filming sparring or rolling is not allowed without permission from both the coach and your training partner.

Do not request security camera footage. We are unable to provide clips.

Trial gear is for new students only. After approximately 3–4 weeks, all students must have their own equipment.
